Obituary

Carlos Manuel Mercado, 55, passed away peacefully June 9, 2014, surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Mercado; children, Annette, Carlos and Jason Mercado; siblings, Maria, Martha, Eddie, Kenny and Oscar Mercado; and parents, Julio and Margarita Mercado.

Carlos was the type person who was always there when someone needed him, whether it was offering a ride or even his uncanny ability to make others laugh in the most difficult of times, even on his final day with us. His passing is a great loss to us all, though we can all try to find comfort in our memories and the time we were able to have with him. He is now resting in God’s hands.

Events:

It was Carlos’s wishes to be cremated and have his ashes scattered in Puerto Rico and portion launched into space. Both will be arranged for a future date and details will be updated here. In addition, we are planning to have a tree planted in his name which will also be determined at a later date.

A memorial will be held on June 22, 2014 at Fort Tilden Park in Far Rockaway. Far Rockaway was a place my father enjoyed as a child with family and this specific area holds a unique history. Fort Tilden was a key military base during WWII, housing key air defense weaponry (including nuclear missles), in addition to being the location where Igor Sikorsky tested early prototypes of Helicopters. Given my father’s love of the beach, rockets, helicopters and especially his love of family, it’s the right place and way to honor and remember him.
